Contributions to Automating Data and Applications Integration Processes in the Semantic Web
This habilitation focuses on addressing interoperability challenges in application integration within distributed environments such as Web services and Mashups. While existing technologies have resolved some technical interoperability issues, new challenges have emerged, including the complexity of discovering, composing, and managing services and IoT devices, the inadequacy of existing tools for novice users, and the increasing importance of privacy and security in decentralized and competitive environments. To tackle these challenges, a semantic approach leveraging Linked Open Data (LOD) was developed to automate tasks such as discovery, composition, and updates. By enriching service and IoT device descriptions with semantic resources, this approach avoids costly ontology alignment and simplifies annotation and matchmaking processes across diverse knowledge domains. For service mashups, a visual and declarative tool was proposed, empowering novice users to dynamically compose services on the fly using configuration theory for the dynamic selection and integration of services based on user-defined constraints. To ensure secure and reliable execution without centralized control, a Blockchain-based decentralized solution was introduced, providing adaptability to changes and trustworthy execution in open environments. Additionally, the work addresses privacy management by proposing a client-side synchronization solution to manage user applications and sessions across multiple devices without relying on third-party storage. This is complemented by a privacy model integrated into the Web of Things framework, addressing privacy concerns in distributed, open environments. Several research perspectives are also discussed.
